Rutte Reaffirms US Commitment to NATO

(MENAFN) On Thursday, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte reiterated the United States’ dedication to the transatlantic alliance, underscoring Washington’s ongoing leadership in NATO’s collective defense.

"The United States remains fully committed to NATO," Rutte told reporters during a joint press briefing with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store in Brussels. He emphasized that this commitment is evident daily through the presence of American forces in Europe, U.S. leadership within NATO, and contributions to shared defense efforts.

Rutte highlighted that Washington’s pledge is not merely symbolic but demonstrated through tangible measures, pointing out that the U.S. continues to reinforce NATO’s security framework consistently. He also drew attention to the increasing strategic relevance of the Arctic and High North, stressing that Norway’s expertise and leadership are vital to the alliance’s stance in the region.

Prime Minister Store, meanwhile, underlined the importance of coordinating increased defense spending among allies to enhance NATO’s overall strength and regional defense strategies. He noted that all Nordic nations are now integrated into NATO’s command structure in Norfolk, Virginia, reflecting shifting security dynamics and Europe’s expanding responsibility within the alliance.
