Norway Shatters Spring Temperature Record

(MENAFN) Norway has logged its hottest spring since records began, a state broadcaster reported Tuesday, citing official climate data that points to an accelerating warming trend across the Nordic nation.

Climate researcher Jostein Mamen told the broadcaster that the national average temperature ran 2.1°C (35.8°F) above the established climate norm, with abnormally high readings in March and April serving as the primary drivers of the historic benchmark.

"2026, therefore, breaks the previous record from 2024. Spring 2025, which was then the second warmest, has now been pushed down to third place," Mamen said.

The season's peak heat arrived on April 30, when thermometers climbed to 26.5°C (79.7°F) — an extraordinary reading for a spring month. "Since 1957, it has only happened once before, in 2015, that the highest spring temperature was recorded in April," Mamen noted.

The climate scientist also moved to shut down an emerging counter-narrative, firmly dismissing the notion that heightened solar activity could be responsible for the observed warming.

"The sun is too stable" to account for the rapid climate changes currently being observed, he said, attributing the changes instead to emissions from fossil fuels — squarely placing the blame on human industrial activity rather than natural celestial cycles.

The record adds Norway to a growing list of countries documenting extreme seasonal temperature anomalies in 2026, reinforcing warnings from climate scientists about the pace and breadth of global warming.
