Trump is still bitter about not getting Nobel prize
In a letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, Trump expressed frustration over Norway’s refusal “to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS.” He added that he “no longer feel[s] an obligation to think purely of Peace,” though he stressed that peace would still remain “predominant” on his agenda while allowing him to prioritize “what is good and proper for the United States of America.”
Trump used the letter to justify his efforts to assert US control over Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, stating that “the World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.” He questioned Denmark’s sovereignty over the island, claiming there were “no written documents” establishing ownership and arguing that Copenhagen could not adequately protect it from Russia or China.
“I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States,” Trump wrote. His push to acquire Greenland has put the US at odds with European NATO members, who oppose any transfer of the Arctic island. As tensions rose, Trump threatened tariffs on eight European nations until Washington is allowed to buy Greenland, prompting European officials to warn of a “dangerous downward spiral.”
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded independently by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which maintains no influence over its decisions. The 2025 prize was awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who gifted the medal to Trump in January. While the US president called it “a wonderful gesture of mutual respect,” the Nobel Committee clarified that the award and title “can neither be revoked, shared, nor transferred to others.”
